Ray Mumford and Norfolk Branch RMA Range Art. For many years Norfolk Branch RMA have used a zero-danger-area air rifle range as a focus to connect with the general public in their outreach and fundraising activities. When through over-use the original structure began to fail in 2018, it was decided a new trailer-mounted version was needed and Lt Col Mark Rundle took on the project. Trimming the firing point upstand to fit the trailer meant new artwork was required. Luckily, Mark had previously made the acquaintance of world-renowned artist Ray Mumford (http://www.raymumford.co.uk ) who generously offered his expertise. They decided on a suitable theme, an amphibious landing, and Ray (shown on the right of the second photo) immediately set to work, with amazing results.

Branch members were so overwhelmed with the firing point artwork that they decided the plain white panels of the exterior of the range trailer should also receive the same treatment, but of course they were all of proportions varying from the original and each other, so Ray set to work creating a different version of his artwork to fit each and every external panel.

The moment the general public saw the artwork, it was clear that it resonated with their idea of the Royal Marines, and so it was immediately decided to sell merchandise, with mugs and T-Shirts bearing yet more versions of the art, which were soon on sale. The Branch then tried something more ambitious - a jigsaw. Unfortunately, the original artwork produced too many pieces with little to distinguish them, so it was clear a far more detailed image was needed. After hundreds of hours of even more intricate work, Ray produced the masterpiece required: Landing at Dawn – Littoral Strike 21st Century to adorn jigsaws, which rapidly sold out.

For 2023’s jigsaws, Ray has now updated and added to the original jigsaw artwork, which as Landing at Dawn 2 – Littoral Strike 21st Century is now for sale from the Royal Marines Shop, as a piece of art in its own right. It is available in a range of sizes, for you to frame to match your own décor. A print can even be produced as a large wallcovering (up to 5 feet in height and 7 feet 6 inches wide on photo-paper) or if required even larger, as wallpaper, to grace the entire wall of, say, an RMA Branch meeting room, bar or even to become the ultimate focal point of a “Man-Cave”. Please discuss your detailed requirements with the RM Shop.

For his selfless and considerable efforts in supporting the RMA-The Royal Marines Charity throughout this long project, Ray has been made an honorary member of the RMA.
