On D Day, 6 June 1944, two Special Service Brigades of commandos were deployed.
The 1st Special Service Brigade, under command of Lord Lovat, landed on Sword Beach. Their main objective was to fight through to the 6th Airborne Division at Pegasus Bridge.
The 4th Special Service Brigade consisted of Royal Marine Commandos. 48 Commando landed on the left flank of Juno Beach and 41 Commando landed on the right flank of Sword Beach and then assaulted Lion-sur-Mer. 48 Commando landed in front of the St. Aubin-sur-Mer strong point and lost forty percent of its men. 47 Commando landed on Gold Beach near the town of Asnells. Five of the Landing Craft carrying them ashore were sunk by mines and beach obstacles, which resulted in the loss of 76 of their 420 men. These losses delayed their advance to their primary objective, the port of Port-en-Bessin, which they captured the following day.
This special gin is handcrafted using traditional and non traditional botanicals including gorse flowers and bastard balm or royal velvet. Spicy notes from the pink peppercorn and cardamom blend with citrus/herbal notes from limes and lemon verbena. These are combined with crystal clear spring water from Riverstone Dew, near Winkleigh, Devon.
ABV: 47% to commemorate 47 Commando
